September Wildflower School PAC Meeting: What Went Down and What’s Coming Next!

If you missed this month’s Wildflower School Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meeting, don’t worry—we’ve got the highlights, the laughs, and the action items wrapped up in a tidy package for you. Spoiler: there’s a lot of talk about hot lunches, soccer nets, and a clothing swap that might just save your winter coat budget.

Here’s what went down on September 10, 2024, in the school garden (yes, we held a meeting in the garden—because we’re fancy like that):

Principal’s Report: New Faces, Cubbies, and Playground Dreams

Principal Nick Graves gave us his principal report (of 5 days into the new school year, so it's a short one for this month).

  • Student enrollment: 153 kiddos are now part of the Wildflower family.

  • New staff: Cindy (EA), Claire Hewson (Counselor/Librarian), and Emma (Seedlings teacher) are here to sprinkle some magic in the classrooms.

  • Cubbies: Yes, we’re making those cubbies happen for all K-6 classrooms.

  • Soccer Nets & Playground: It’s on the radar—pending a review from the staff. Because what's recess without some soccer action, right?

Hot Lunch Program: The Eternal Debate

PAC parents are considering taking back one of the two hot lunch days the school currently runs? Cue the discussions. We'd like to offer more options for healthy hot lunches, but in order to do that we need your help!

Challenges include finding enough volunteers, picking the right restaurants (we’re looking at you, single-use plastic haters), and trying to figure out which options are both healthy and tasty for picky-eaters.

Ideas were tossed around like fresh salad:

  • Home-cooked meals once a week (ambitious, we know).

  • Partnering with local businesses for some community love.

We’re putting together a subcommittee to tackle this head-on. Volunteers, anyone? You don’t have to cook (if you don't want to). We'll get rolling for the new year once we have a solid subcommittee and plan!

Playground Expansion: Let’s Make Recess More Awesome

Soccer nets, playground space, and garden area—it’s all under review. The gaming account can fund some new playground equipment, so we’re working on a plan to get the most out of those dollars. Stay tuned for the next phase of “Operation Recess Upgrade.”

Swim & Ski: Ready to Make a Splash (or Slide)

We’re still looking for a parent to lead the swim lessons—know anyone? Don’t worry, Matt’s thinking about leading downhill skiing again, and teachers will be heading up cross-country skiing. Winter? We’re coming for you!

Holiday Fundraiser: Poinsettias, Beeswax… and New Ideas!

Tova can’t lead this year’s holiday fundraiser but will help a new superstar step in. Got a fundraising idea? Bring it to the table. Think festive, fun, and maybe less poinsettia. (Though we do love those red flowers.)

Garden Reps: Green Thumbs Needed!

Kim, our resident garden guru, needs parent reps for each class to help manage garden beds. Without help, some classes might be bed-less (not ideal). If you’ve got a green thumb or a willingness to learn, this is your moment! Please reach out to Martine (our PAC Chair) to confirm that you will be your class' garden rep.

Kids Clothing Swap: Winter Gear for Fundraiser? Sign Us Up!

Emily brought up a brilliant idea—a clothing swap. Winter gear, coats, skates, you name it (except toys or books). We’re thinking of a fun event where we swap ‘til we drop (before the snow does). Clothes to be sold for $1 to $2 that will be raised for the PAC funding that will support this years plans and activities.

Happening Tuesday, October 15th at 3pm in the Wildflower Gym!

Lost & Found: Time to Marie Kondo This

We all know the drill—bins of clothes, forgotten hoodies, and stray mittens. One suggestion was to put all that treasure on racks instead of bins. Thanks to Jana Roemer, we’ve got a rack coming in. Get ready for some serious “Oh, that’s where it went!” moments.

DPAC Rep: Calling All Volunteers!

We’re missing a DPAC representative, and the PAC needs YOU! If you love being in the know and want to make a difference at the district level, this role is for you. Here is more information about the DPAC and the list of dates for meetings (via zoom) you'd need to attend. The role is to attend meetings, take notes to report back and to contribute to the DPAC meeting on behalf of Wildflower PAC. If you have questions, and/or are interested in becoming our DPAC rep, contact Martine by clicking here.

What’s Next?

Next Meeting: Mark your calendars for Tuesday, October 8th at 3 pm!

See you there—or we’ll fill you in with another blog recap. You can also find all important PAC dates on our new website calendar!

Remember, Wildflower parents, we’re building an incredible community, one subcommittee at a time! Got ideas? Got a few minutes to spare? We’ll take it all, because together, we’re unstoppable. 🌻
